Meet Our JOMO Summer Interns: Katie & Sarah
“I am right where I’m supposed to be.”
This quote lives on my vision board and reminds me that I can make an impact—right from where I am. Not just geographically (though that matters, too), but from the heart of my own experience.
Contributing from where we are means showing up with what we have: our questions, our experiences, and our hopes. Whether we’re leading with wisdom from past challenges or leaning into the curiosity of learning something new, it’s all valuable.
We often receive feedback about how the JOMO(campus) program is making a difference in schools.
“Partnering with JOMO has been an incredible blessing for our school and has certainly led to a healthier mindset as we have worked our way to being phone-free.”
— Ben Carapezza, Director of Learning, Eastern Christian School
“I changed my awareness and productivity goals when using technology. I set timers to keep track of my time and found activities to keep me occupied. JOMO was only a motivation to get me started on something I've wanted to do for a while.”
— Nanaimo Christian School Student
But we wanted to go a step beyond and bring in the voices from those schools. We believe that JOMO values like integrity, joy, community, and creativity come alive most powerfully when they’re lived and voiced by students themselves. That’s why we’re so excited to welcome our JOMO Summer Student Interns, Katie and Sarah. They have been a part of our JOMO Youth Advisory Council (read more about the council here) this past semester. Through our summer internship, they’re bringing their own perspectives to our work—writing blog posts, offering insights, and even helping plan our very first JOMO Student Leadership Summit!
Meet Katie Lam:
What is up! My name is Katie and I have been a proud JOMOer since January 2024. I just recently graduated high-school and I am now headed to the University of British Columbia (UBC) for business in the fall. I'm so excited to dive into different themes and stories regarding digital well-being through these blog posts and hope that you also enjoy getting to learn a little bit about me :) toodles and see you around!
Meet Sarah Brown:
Hi! I’m Sarah! I live in Ontario, and I am in my final year at King’s Christian Collegiate. I was first introduced to JOMO through an event at my school where I jumped into the Joy Of Missing Out with both feet! I am very excited to be working with JOMO over the summer and connecting with them into the future where I know we are making a very positive difference!
Keep an eye out for monthly blogs from Katie and Sarah this year! Their contributions don’t just add to the mission—they embody it. And that’s exactly where they’re supposed to be.
With Joy,
Andie
JOMO Director of Communications
